Philippians 3:7-11New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
7 Yet whatever gains I had, these I have come to regard as loss because of Christ. 8 More than that, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but one that comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God based on faith.
Good Morning Family,
A few Questions: Can you think of all your worldly possessions as loss when it comes to gaining a relationship with Christ? Will you be able to think of your pride, ego, money, car, clothes, title, and or position in this world as rubbish? Will you allow the gain of Christ that you have achieved to work in you so that they will blessed and so God may receive the glory? For many of us the immediate answer is yes. However, even in our haste we must stop a count up the cost of pursuing this great gain. In other words, what are we daily doing to value our relationships with Christ? Paul in today's text gives us a lesson in economics. Not in the traditional sense however, he has taken into account everything that he has in this world and assessed that it is not the same value as relationship to Christ. Today you will encounter someone that is not in the family of God. Make it your aim to pursue God's righteousness in faith and not the righteousness of man.
Let us pray. Almighty God, Sustainer and Creator we come before your throne of grace this day seeking to gain the promise that you gave of everlasting life. We thank you for your sacrifice and through this prayer ask that you lay on our hearts a greater understanding of what it means to gain you and count all we have as loss. In Jesus name, amen.
